what song should sing for my solo in chorus?

It’s a competitioin so it has to be a song where I can show off my voice. Not just stay on the same note the whole song, but any recommendations would help!

you should do something different, ever heard of Christina Agulara’s Candy Man? Or what about Somewhere Over the Rainbow, the version that was on that movie 50 first dates?

I was reading your question and the song “Dog & Butterfly” by Heart came on the radio. Strange coincidence? Are you familiar with this song? It’s more or less a ballad, and Ann Wilson hits some unbelievable notes. Check it out.

If you have a powerful voice and want to show it off, try something from Dreamgirls - like I Am Changing, Love You I Do, I Am Telling You I’m Not Going or an old classic like A House Is Not a Home. If your voice has a sweeter, more melodic tone to it, why don’t you go for something from Whitney Houston, Barbra Striesand or Celine Dion.

Are you competing in front of a general audience or a music organization? What is your voice range? These are some important questions to address before choosing a song. Providing you can really “feel” whatever you sing, I think Broadway (including CATS, Oliver, Phantom, Fiddler, Les Mis) - or of course, the Messiah - for the richness of the Latin, are both great choices.

not britney, christina, kelly clarkson, or anything with too many vocal olympics and runs and stuff, unless you are really that good. you have to do something simple, but shows off the strong points in your voice. like think about what range you sing in. dont try to go higher or lower that unless you have a lot of time to be able to broaden your range. good luck

well if you want to do broadway tunes then i would have to say not that girl from the musical wicked it has hight and low parts and switches from head voice to belt voice! so if i were you that would be the perfect song

how about Somewhere- from Westside Story- it’s low and high (I think it goes down to Bb and up to F or G)- I’ve sung it for many things
And we did westside story when I was in high school (but I was Anita)
