What song should i sing for my high school pageant?

Skittles asked:

I’m a soprano, I’m in chorus. I believe I can sing. I have taken vocal lessons before. I’m not sure what other talent i could perform if i don’t sing. I’m thinking about getting my best friend to acompany me with the piano. I was thinking a bit on the opera side so that it’s not too familiar with the crowd. I like the song Con Te Partiro by Sarah Brightman, but that is in italian. I’m Chinese, so maybe i could learn a chinese song, but i’m not sure if the audience would enjoy listening to something they don’t understand. I’m taking spanish, so thats another option for learning a song in a different language. Please give me some adive or suggestions.

Look for “O Mio Babbino Caro” from Gianni Schicchi. It is a beautiful aria for a soprano. Don’t worry about the audience, if you work at the song and do it well, they will enjoy it.

If you’re going to do some classical and/or in a foreign language, keep it short and dramatic. How ’bout O Mio Babbino Caro from Puccini’s opera Gianni Schicchi? Plus the tune is very recognizable, so people should enjoy that.

Okay, I now see that someone else already suggested that .

Other good choices; all in one collection: 17th and 18th century 24 Italian Art Songs and Arias (good for young voices).

Stradella’s Pieta Signore. Very dramatic. Just make some cuts; otherwise it gets too long to hold the interest of laymen.

Pergolesi’s Se tu m’ami is another good one. Feels great on the chords and has beautiful musical phrasing.

Gluck’s O del mio dolce ardor is beautiful; very expressive (and slow).

there are some nice chinese songs, but i just don’t like mandarin. to me, it sounds too wierd, even though i’ve heard it many times because of the tone changes. i like cantonese better. it doesnt matter if you sing in itallian. i like the japanes and korean songs my older brother listens to, even though i dont know what they’re singing about, as long as it sounds nice.
