Rachel asked:

I am 13 yrs old, auditioning for a summer program and I need a Broadway song. I am a mezzo soprano, and songs I’m thinking of include “The Wizard and I” from Wicked and “Gimme, Gimme” from Thoroughly Modern Millie. If you know any songs that would work for me, I would be much obliged to hear them!

    Hopelessly devoted to you- Grease
They call the wind mariah- paint your wagon
I’m gonna wash that man right out of my hair- South Pacific

I would try the second one and best of luck to you

i do like wicked the best possibly no good deed or defying gravity. they are both very intense and involve lots of emotion
    or something from grease(hopelessly devoted)
or from oklahoma( there are lots of good chices)

HAHAHAHA! Phantom of the Opera is not broadway…lol. someone had that as their answer!…. Anyway, you should do “All That Jazz” from Chicago. It shows a lot of talent as well as possibly showing off your dancing skills if you wanted to! =)

Castle on a Cloud from Les Miserables

Let Me Entertain You - Gypsy
    Little Lamb - Gypsy
    Maybe - Annie
    Tomorrow - Annie
Castle on a Cloud - Les Mis
My New Philosophy - You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown

And yes, The Phantom of the Opera *IS* a musical. In fact, it’s a very pivotal musical in American Musical theater history and the longest running show on Broadway.

as a person who’s helped with a couple musical auditions for a couple community theatres, i would say DO NOT pick a song that could potentially be sung by 15 other girls. such as Castle on a Cloud, or Tommorrow (you try sitting throgh a three hour audition and hear those two songs at least 20 times each, gets old!) I’d say:

    Good Morning Baltimore-Hairspray
    Never fully dressed - Annie
    Astonishing- Little Women
Somethings are ment to be- Little Women

Gimme, Gimme is a good one too.

Here are some other ideas to consider, too:

    Sweet Charity: “Big Spender”
(Very cute… put a lot of action and drama into it…)

    Oklahoma! “I Cain’t Say No”

South Pacific: I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta’ My Hair”

My Fair Lady: “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” (Don’t forget the Cockney accent)

West Side Story: “I Feel Pretty”

Annie: “I Think I’m Gonna’ Like It Here”

Once Upon a Mattress: “The Swamps of Home”
(Hilarious if you put a LOT of DRAMA into it!!!)

A Chorus Line: “The Music and the Mirror” or “Dance 10, Looks 3″

    BTW… to macymiche… above…
Phantom of the Opera IS Broadway… in fact, it is the LONGEST running Broadway Show in NYC!!! ; )
“Wishing you Were Somehow Here Again” from that would be excellent… but not much you can do to it…

You want to do something that is in your range and you can show off your skills… singing, dancing, acting… incorporate all you can to accentuate your positive aspects and be memorable to the selecting panel.

    Have FUN and GOOD LUCK…. ummmm… I mean…. Break a LEG!!! ; )
