How can I get Japanese song titles to display correctly in itunes?

October 11th, 2009 | by song |
Guest asked:

I have my itunes set with English as the default language. I also import and listen to alot of Japanese songs. However, itunes doesn’t recognize the characters and just displays square boxes instead of song titles. Does anyone have a suggestion for resolving this, without changing the default language?

A Mac should display it correctly as that is what I have.

If you have a PC, you’re going to need to install the Asian or Japanese language pack so that you have the fonts to display Japanese. If you already have it, then I’m not sure what else to suggest since I don’t have a PC with iTunes. At work we use PCs and I can read/write Japanese no problem with IME. Sometimes when you get the auto song titles there are some mistakes and you have to correct it. That’s where the ability to write Japanese comes in handy. For fast finding purposes, I do like to put romaji in front of the Japanese artist name. It’s also useful when I ask someone to change what’s playing on the iPod because they can’t read Japanese.
